Entry Criteria
Affective - English Language Learners receive instruction using second language acquisition methods in English to introduce basic concepts within the school environment. This instills confidence and pride.
Goal 2
Linguistic - English Language Learners are provided specialized instruction to develop proficiency in the comprehension, speaking reading and composition of the English Language. Core Content is structured around required essential knowledge and skills and higher order thinking skills.
Goal 3
Cognitive - English Language Learners are provided instruction in English across the core content areas using ESL strategies and methods to ensure mastery of the grade level essential knowledge and skills and higher order thinking skills.
Program Model
Aransas Pass ISD offers content based ESL and Pull-out models. All Aransas Pass ISD will develop English Proficiency through content-based instruction. ESL instruction is an important piece if general instruction. ESL strategies and methods provide the support needed to comprehend content while acquiring the English Language. ESL students may receive instruction from:
*Their teacher who is ESL certified
*A teacher who is certified in English Language Arts and English as a Second Language
*Their teacher who is trained in Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol
*A paraprofessional who is trained to work with ESL students and works under a certified teacher
*Teachers who calloborate to provide the best learning for students.
